On May 16, China’s National Bureau of Statistics released a report on energy production in April 2022, which showed that power generation in April was 608.6 billion kilowatt-hours, down 4.3% year on year, compared with an increase of 0.2% last month, and the average daily power generation was 20.29 billion kilowatt-hours. From January to April, electricity generated 2.6 trillion kilowatt-hours, up 1.3 percent year on year.
By category, in April, the decline of thermal power increased, while the growth of hydropower, nuclear power and wind power slowed down to varying degrees, while the growth of solar power accelerated. Among them, thermal power decreased by 11.8% year on year, 6.1 percentage points more than last month; Hydropower increased 17.4 percent, 2.4 percentage points slower than the previous month. Nuclear power grew 0.9 percent, 1.3 percentage points slower than the previous month. Wind power grew 14.5 percent, 9.3 percentage points slower than last month. Solar power grew 24.9 percent, 8.1 percentage points faster than the previous month.
